As a chief human resources officer, it’s my job to think about these things from an organizational perspective — and the mental health of our people has weighed heavily on my mind.

At Blue Shield, I identified an executive sponsor who was receptive to the idea of bringing the children and volunteers together during lunchtime at one of our local offices. As a result, the Beyond School Walls program was born.
