Recognizing Kelly Aaron, a consultant of our law department’s Mandates Control Group, who has been volunteering with various nonprofit organizations for the past 30 years.

We recently spoke with Patrice Bergman, vice president of Individual and Family Plans (IFP), about her involvement with our Disability Inclusion Alliance employee resource group (ERG), her personal journey, and Blue Shield of California’s recent recognition as a 2023 Leading Disability Employer by the National Organization on Disability.

Our partnership with Cristo Rey prepares students from underrepresented backgrounds for current and future job opportunities in the healthcare industry.

As vice president of Corporate Citizenship, Antoinette Mayer leads Blue Shield of California’s efforts to become an industry leader in corporate social responsibility, environmental sustainability, and corporate reputation. In 2019, Antoinette and her team launched the BlueSky initiative to support youth mental health throughout California.

Our own Ricquel Jackson works with local nonprofit, Keep Oakland Beautiful, on various cleanup and beautification projects such as painting murals and planting community gardens. She also serves as a board member and recently secured a donation from Blue Shield of California to further her efforts.

Blue Shield's own Kim Kellogg combines her love of volunteering and horses at Xenophon Therapeutic Riding Center, with support from our Dollars for Doers Program.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of our Mission & Values In Action (MVIA) awards – Blue Shield of California's highest honor. After a rigorous selection process from 40 nominations, including 21 teams, eight individuals, six customer success individuals, and five corporate citizenship individuals, we have announced our winners of the 2022 MVIA awards.

Blue Shield is committed to achieving our goal of 80% of our members opting in for paperless communication by 2025, an effort that is being led by Vivian Burgard, Transformation Principal of Communication Governance.

This Martin Luther King Day, our people at Blue Shield were encouraged to make their ‘day off a day on’ by donating and/or volunteering for several events across California.
